DiveSports.com is Live and Kicking!
January 27, 2008 12:05 pm General CommentarySome of you may have already noticed, but we switched our domain name over to the new server on Friday afternoon, a couple of day before the plan. Over the past two days, some people have been getting the new site and some have been getting the old site. Well, this morning, I officially switched the redirects off and everyone should now be getting the new website.
We will be sending our first email newsletter out early this week. In the previous 8 years in our store, we have never used email as a promotion tool. We realize that is now going to have to change. We will be sending all of our promotional and newsletter email out through Constant Contact, a completely Opt-In email service. We will not purchase email lists or engage in any type of email adress harvesting. If you are not on our email mailing list, or if you are not sure, use the sign-up box in the right-hand column of this blog page. Enter your email address and confirm on the page that follows. Or, you can visit our new website at www.divesports.com and page down the left column. You will see a sign-up box there. With advertising and manufacturer price controls, there will be lots of specials that we will ONLY be able to promote through our emails, so please get on this list so you will not miss out on the great deals.
Thank you all for your support and I hope this new website provide you with a much better shopping experience, a much faster surfing experience. We will continue to work hard to improve the website and the content.
Phil Ellis

Constant Contact is a great resource-I use it on my own site-it’s got great template builder tools and easy opt out services.
Yay! Specials!
Any reason why you guys are still using your IP as a host? (http://66.216.117.27/) as opposed to divesports.com…
Great blog!

One more thing I noticed-on the ‘Meet The Bloggers’ page, your pictures are hot linked incorrectly, so they aren’t showing up.
For example, (http://www.divesports.com/images/Brad_Ellis.jpg) doesn’t work anymore.
Ah, the terrors of updating a website.

Josh, thanks for that catch. The photo was linked from our other site. I will have to get that changed tomorrow. Thanks for all of your comments. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to sign up for our email list. And, tell your friends about our sites!

Very nice website. The old one was good, but this one is so much more professional.
Given your great customer service, it should dovetail nicely with your operation.

RSS Feed
When I add your feed to my reader, it has no title (but does have a dive flag). I’m not sure if it’s my reader’s problem, or your XML is untitled…

Wow, It’s great to see all of the positive comments on the look and ease of use of the NEW DiveSports.com. All of the work was well worth the effort. Phil and I worked really hard on getting everything ready to go for the DNS switch. Now thankfully, its up and running smoothly, and I can get back to adding more products.
Josh, the IP/host thing is working correctly now. The hosting company built their software so that the name change wouldn’t be active until all servers had the new site. That worried us all day friday and saturday.

pwallace……you are now asking a question that is WAY over my head. I will try to find our why you are not seeing a title on the RSS feed. Tomorrow, I will call WordPress and see if they have an idea. Hey, thanks for wanting a feed. Please give us your comments on all you see here.

Ok, I’m a little new to the RSS/XML, but in looking at the raw file, it seems that the XML file has a tag, with no content.
I can see all of the other content, but without a title, it gets a little lost among my other feeds.

I have posted a note on a Word Press chat board to see if someone has any idea why you are not getting a title. Hey, if you know ANYTHING about RSS, you know more than me. But I will try to find the answer.

Thanks przeor. Actually, I am pretty amazed that there haven’t been any issues. I guess that is a tribute to Brad, who did a great job with the site.
